Perfil e tendência temporal de internação por uso de substâncias psicoativas no Brasil, entre 2008-2021

Introduction: The abusive use of psychoactive substances is inserted in different contexts and influenced by different factors, being a socioeconomic problem that generates high health costs. Objective: To analyze the profile and temporal trend of hospital admissions for psychoactive substances in Brazil between 2008–2021. Methods: Ecological study, with analysis of the population profile and temporal trend. 814,230 hospital admissions for mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of other psychoactive substances in Brazil between 2008-2021 were analyzed, according to the DATASUS Hospital Information System. Statistical analysis was performed using linear regression. The level of significance established was p-value ≤ 0.05. Results: There was a predominance of males (79.67%), aged 20-39 years (67.32%), white skin color (42.46%), from the Southeast region (40.45%) and in urgency (81.57%). The average stay of 21 days and total average value (R$) of 14,301.10. The Northeast had the longest length of stay (23.8 days) and the highest average cost of hospitalization (R$1,163.95). There was a reduction in the overall average rate of hospitalizations, for males and in the age groups of 15-19, 20-39 and over 80 years old for males. Reduction in hospitalization rates in the Central-West, Southeast and Northeast. Conclusion: The predominant profile of hospitalizations is men, aged 20 to 39 years, white, from the Southeast region and on an urgent basis. There was a tendency towards a decrease in hospitalizations for psychoactive substances.
