Fish are an important tool in the evaluation of environmental quality. This review presents a review on some issues related to the use of fish as water quality indicator in programs of environmental monitoring. The article approaches aspects of environmental impact and biological indicators, and discusses the concept and the importance of use of biomarkers, histopatologic alterations and diseases in fish populations.Downloads
