Advances in the treatment of HIV infection has resulted in an increased patient longevity and as a consequence, the spectrum of clinical presentations have been modified in this population. Polyneuropathy got prominence and is now the most common neurological manifestation. Early recognition of this and other clinically similar conditions could result in an individualized treatment strategy. The identification and control of modified risk factors together with an appropriate treatment of symptoms are crucial for a better quality of life of these patients. This review presents the most relevant aspects concerning the clinical presentation, risk factors and therapeutic aspects of polyneuropathy in HIV infected patients.Downloads
