Abstract

From the point of view that the inadequate disposal of waste from health services constitutes an issue of public health, this study reports on a research carried out with garbage workers and consumers of pharmaceuticals in the city of Rio Grande. The results point out gaps in the current laws, lack of information in the communities with regard to medicine disposal, and the consumption of this waste by the workers. In conclusion, there is the need to integrate political, environmental and educational actions concerned with the quality of life of people.
