Abstract

This study aimed to describe the change in the epidemiological profile of HIV in Brazil, considering the different Brazilian states, both sexes, and only in people aged 70 or over, comparing 1990 with 2019. Data was collected using the platform GBD Compare and its extension GBD Results, on which the research was carried out the topic HIV/ AIDS, in relation to the rates of DALYs, Deaths and Incidence, with the addition of the following parameters to narrow down the search: age group, gender and Brazilian regions in the two years proposed (1990 and 2019). In addition, the annual variation between 1990 and 2019 was evaluated. The results observed at the end of the surveys show a migration in the rates of DALYs and Deaths for the Southern region, in both sexes, as well as the general increase in these rates throughout the whole Brazil. Such results can be explained by the increase in reporting of HIV/AIDS cases over time. However, there is also a reduction in incidence rates, which can be justified by the insertion of treatment through the Unified Health System (SUS) and awareness campaigns about STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections). This highlights the extreme importance of reporting cases and disseminating accessible information, through public policies aimed at the entire Brazilian population, in order to reduce the transmission of the disease and facilitate diagnosis.
