Objective: To study the effect of Ilex paraguariensis extract of rats aminotransferases subjected to ischemia and reperfusion (IR) liver. Methods: 24 male Wistar rats divided into: control group (CG), Ilex Group, 90 days (IG-90), Ilex Group 60 days (IG-60), Ilex Group 30 days (GI-30). Was administered approximately 900 µg Ilex paraguariensis orally daily for 30 days in GI-30 for 60 days in GI-60 and 90 days in GI-90 and the control group (CG) was administered water ad libitum for 90 days. Hepatic ischemia was proceeded for 30 minutes in all groups and followed by reperfusion for 45 minutes of reperfusion. The animals were anesthetized intramuscularly with xylazine (25 mg kg-1) / ketamine (50 mg kg-1). After the reperfusion was collected blood and measured levels of aminotransferases, followed by euthanasia. Results: The levels of AST and ALT were significantly similar to the control group. Conclusion: This study found no changes in the levels of AST and ALT, in comparison between the experimental groups (90, 60 and 30 days) with the control group.
