An investigation had the objective of developing and testing a model for health professionals’ education in disaster management. The methodology developed by the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research, adapted for use in the Brazilian context was used. The research was developed in three phases: (1) selection of competences and search of referential in the databases: MEDLINE via PubMed, Google Scholar, Lilacs and Scielo; (2) development of educational modules; (3) application to a group of students at a University of Southern Brazil. In the 27 references identified, 71 competences were selected and organized according to the National Curriculum Guidelines. The model was available at the Moodle Platform, as a self-directed course to undergraduate students. In comparing the results of pre and post-test a significant difference in all modules was found. The method proved to be effective and the model can be applied to undergraduate students, and its content assimilated in their Curriculum at Universities in Brazil.
