ABSTRACT
Introduction: Food and nutritional assistance is essential for the comprehensive care of cancer patients. Objective: To conduct a review of evidence about the nutritional care for cancer patients in palliative care. Methods: An integrative systematic literature review was carried out with the guiding question: “How does nutritional care integrate the palliative care of cancer patients?”. The search carried out in October 2020 explored articles published from 2015 to 2020 with the combination of the keywords: nutritional care, palliative care, cancer, and synonyms, in the PubMed, VHL Regional, Embase, EBSCOhost and Cochrane databases. Results: Nine articles were included. After analysis, five major thematic categories on nutritional care were defined: nutritional assessment; dietary counseling; nutritional support; caregiver education; professional training. Conclusion: The nutritional care, carried out through the activities identified, integrates palliative care from the meeting between health professionals, patients, caregivers and staff for food, highlighting the role of the nutritionist as an important factor for the quality of integral care to cancer patients and their families.
