Abstract

Introduction: Climacteric is one of the phases of a woman's life in which physiological changes occur, accompanied by symptoms that affect the quality of life of these women. During this period, they may also present weakening of the lung muscles (MAP), leading to urinary incontinence (UI). UI is characterized as an involuntary loss of urine, being assessed in stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urgent urinary incontinence (UUI) or mixed urinary incontinence (MUI). Objectives: The objective of this study is to develop an information booklet with specific exercise guidelines for the functional training of the pelvic floor muscles (TPFM) for women who are in the climacteric phase. Methods: Literature review, referring to articles that were published between the years 2015 to 2020, in the Lilacs, PubMed and Scielo databases. Results: The results through researches show that MAP training shows relevant improvements in the treatment of urinary incontinence in women with menopause. Conclusion: Despite the existing evidence on the effectiveness of MAP training for UI, further studies on the effects of functional training of the pelvic floor muscles  (TPFM) on the treatment of UI in climacteric women are needed.
