Abstract

Groundwater from shallow wells have been increasingly used for human consumption. This way, the essay aimed at determining the physiochemical microbiological characteristics of the water of shallow wells and comparing the results with the current environmental legislation. The analyzed water has come from three shallow wells located in Três Vendas neighborhood, in the city of Pelotas-RS. During three months, three samples have been collected, and twelve parameters have been analyzed in each one. The multiple tubes method has been used to detect total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms. All of the results have been compared with the patterns established in the Ordinance 518/04 of the Ministry of Health, and with the Resolution 396 of the National Council for the Environment (CONAMA) of April 3rd, 2008. None of the three analyzed wells have presented water with microbiological and physicochemical quality for consumption, because the presence of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms. Keywords: Groundwater. Physico-chemical analysis. Microbiological analysis.
