The BNCC was enacted in order to ensure students across the country the right to learn the same content, among several, the Fights and combat sports. However, the thematic unit Fights presents difficulties to consolidate as a content of school physical education, due to the conceptual and methodological understanding of such practices. This article aims to deepen the conceptual debate about the terms fights, martial arts, combat sports, self-defense, intermodal confrontation, performative fighting and brawling. After mapping the scientific productions that addressed the concepts on the SciELO platform, a focus group with experts was conducted. It was verified the need for understanding and exemplification of each of these concepts, analyzing the socio-historical-political context involved, because over the years the fights have been re-signified, enabling new approaches, enriching the critical debate about violence, exercising the sense of justice, dialogue and otherness.
